2023 COUNTY POPULATION ESTIMATES RELEASED
Posted on Mar 13, 2024 in Featured, Main, Whats New ReleasesMarch 14, 2024. The U.S. Census Bureau released its county-level Vintage 2023 Population Estimates today. The release contained population data for 2020 to 2023. Final revisions to the 2010 to 2019 Population Estimates Series are expected in Fall 2024.
Between July 1, 2020 and July 1, 2023 the state population declined at an average rate of 0.4% per year. For the counties, Honolulu County’s population declined at an average rate of 0.8% per year and Maui County’s population decreased at an average rate of 0.1% per year. Hawaii County’s population grew by 1.1% on average per year and Kauai County’s population grew by an average rate of 0.3% per year.
On July 1, 2023, 68.9% of the state’s total population lived in Honolulu County. Hawaii County accounted for 14.5% of the total population and Maui County made up 11.4%. Kauai County’s population was 5.1% of the state population.
Data in this release also include components of population changes and data for metropolitan and micropolitan statistical areas. Hawaii data are all available on our Population Estimates webpage.
