2022 State Population Estimates

The U.S. Census Bureau released its 2022 state population estimates today. The latest estimates include the Vintage 2022 estimates for 2020 through 2022.

Hawaii highlights

On July 1, 2021, the resident population for the State of Hawaii was 1,447,154. On July 1, 2022, the resident population for the State of Hawaii was 1,440,196. This was a decline of 0.48%.

On average, between July 1, 2021 and July 1, 2022, the State of Hawaii’s population decreased by 19 people a day.  There was a natural increase of 7 people per day, but, on average, 26 more people moved out of the State of Hawaii than moved to the State of Hawaii per day.

There were:

  • 43 births per day
  • 37 deaths per day
  • 16 more people moving to Hawaii from foreign countries than moving out of Hawaii to foreign countries
  • 42 more people moving out of Hawaii to another state than moving to Hawaii from another state
